Paper Quilling is the art of cutting paper into long thin strips, rolling and pinching the pieces into different shapes, and then gluing the shapes together to form motifs into 2Ds or 3Ds.

During the Renaissance era, French and Italian nuns (or monks) used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper most commonly used was strips of paper trimmed from the gilded edges of books.

The name of quilling is thought to come from the origin of art; birds’ quills(feathers) were used to coil the strips of paper around.
